Anglo- Nubian Milker (in kid)

Post  ballingall on Sun Nov 29, 2009 1:10 pm

I have for sale, either now or in the spring, an Anglo-Nubian milker. Se was supposed to be running through but her milk has dropped off more than expected, so we are in the process of drying her off, and have had her mated. She will be due to kid late April, and can go either before kidding or afterwards. She is a very high milker, and will most likely be giving 8 kilos of milk by May. She is not show quality (due to her udder) but is good breeding stock.

We are in Falkirk area.

Can also supply her with a kid from this year (09 March born) for company, or potentially a new kid born next year for company.

Beginner to Goats

Post  Sarah on Tue Dec 15, 2009 12:59 am

Hello,
I am interested in investigating goat herding/keeping, on a small scale, and was wondering which breed would be best to start with? We have a mixed farm with Cattle sheep and cereal production near Perth.
what would you advise?

Hi Sarah,

I'll begin by asking you some questions I'm afraid.

What are looking to do with your goats? Are you thinking about milk production, meat production, fibre production? Or are you thinking of keeping a couple for pets? Milking goats are useful to help out rearing orphan lambs or calves. Pygmies are good are pets.

Let me know what you think. You could come across and visit us if you like, but we are a bit away. If you didn't want to come this far, I do know people near Perth you could visit or chat to if you want.

My friend Lisa Sinclair works in McCash's in Perth, if you ever happen to pop in there. She has kept goats for years.

Hi Euan,

Sorry for delay!

She is Ballingall Kream Q* (has been milk recorded this year and has hit R147 in 270 days.

She is out of Ballingall Kharisma, who was a home bred milker sold as a 2nd kidder, not shown much, she never had a good appetite, and was never in show condition. And she's by Kilbarchan Moonraker BrCh (who I still have- he has all his CC's to be a full champion, just needs more milking daughters).

She has been mated to Newcairn Athos who is a buckling that Bob and Susan Mason have.

I have her daughter from this year, who I am intending on keeping. Last year I didn't have another male so just put her back to her dad.

Her udder is lopsided, and she has big teats, but she is easy to milk- which is just as well! She has the biggest appetite on a goat I have ever come across, and is great at keeping herself in good condition whilst still milking.

Thank you! I think she's lovely too, but we don't have room to keep them all sadly.
