Goat Kids 2010
Well had my first kid of the year on the 17th Jan (little earlier than what I wanted but Bill escaped once and it only takes a minute).

Yep he is keeping his bits as will use him on unrelated females. My bill passed away the week that this little guy was born so he is the only offspring living from my bill. I have one nanny to kid covered by my bill so max 3 kids on the ground.

Re: Goat Kids 2010
Well, Christina had her kids at last, but she had a horrible time of it. We had to get the vet out as two kids were coming at the same time and were all tangled up, and even my mum couldn't manage to get them out. She had 3 large billy kids in the end. One was very weak after the bad birth (he was the middle kid- part of the tangle) and is no longer with us. The other we have now brought inside, Christina is in a bit of shock after being handled so much. She is rugged up now out in the shed with lots of warm glucose drinks.

Poor Christina, sounds like she had a difficult time and not a female after all that too. Are you keeping both the males for breeding? What breed are they?

Re: Goat Kids 2010
One male is being kept for breeding, and the other as company until we have more kids. We have a home for the other one once he is a bit older, a neighbour of ours wanted a black one as she thought Christina was awfully smart. She got a BT and a white AOV castrates from us 2 years ago as well.
Sadly Christina died yesterday morning, she was still alive when my mum went out first thing, but it was obvious she wasn't going to make it. She died less than 20 mins later. So we have not only lost a lovely goat, but we never got a daughter from her. We will keep her male kid and put him to mum's AOV milker in the autumn to keep her genes.

Re: Goat Kids 2010
Hi Beth,
I am so sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how it feels to loose a goat, for me they are more than animals they are friends. They listen to me ranting, they make me laugh so much and they cheer me up when I am sad. I hope the kids grow up nice and strong and healthy and you get some nice kids from the male(you know what I mean) in the future.
