2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics
Hi,
Anyone been watching the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics? Looks like Amy Williams is going to secure Great Britian's first medal, the Olympic Skeleton Gold! Should find out after the 3rd and 4th runs tonight which begin at 00:55 GMT. (Not staying up to watch that, the Freeview Box is set to record!!!).
Favourite event anyone?
The Moguls were brilliant, very exciting!!!

I like the figure skating, bobsleigh (and luge and skeleton). Alex and I also spent an enjoyable hour the other night watching the men's snowboard cross, and it was absolutely fantastic. Quite enjoy the skiing too, all those Sunday's as a child being made to watch Ski Sunday by my dad.

Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics
Hi Beth,
Glad someone else is watching the Winter Olympics, everyone at work I ask it not interested!! The sliding events definatley are exciting.....in terms of risk they have got to be the most dangerous given the speed and obvious lack of bodily protection with the exception of Bobsleigh. Amy Williams secured her Olympic Skeleton Gold last night and broke the course record with a time of 53.68! Finally a Gold Medal for Great Britian! It seems a shame that we are at the bottom of the medal table, probably because there is not the same level of investment in winter sports in Great Britian as there is in the the US and Germany which is reflected in their top positions in the medal table. I suppose not exactly having an abundance of ski resorts in the UK doesn't help.
Only been skiing once myself, its something I really want to do but I don't have the equipment etc. Hopefully when I find a full time job I maybe take some lessons.

Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics
I had a few lessons of skiing at school which I did really enjoy actually. I stayed up until half midnight last night and saw most of the competitors third slides, but my boyfriend stayed up and watched until Amy got her Gold medal. It is a shame, but we definitely don't have the same focus on it here as other countries do. I think it just comes down to the fact that we don't get a huge amount of snow- at least not for the majority of the country. And yes, I know we got lots this year! Womens curling kicked off today I think as well, I don't know how they got on.

Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics
Hi Beth,
Amy's runs were brilliant, the 3rd one I think was a little messy but she came out with a brilliant aggregate time and Shelley Ruddman didn't perform badly although I think everyone was expecting her to outperform Amy given her Silver in Turin in 2006. Your right we need more snow! Lol...we have had quite a bit this year but it never really bothers me, I love it infact....it changes the landscape and makes everything look prestine. I suppose for farmers and even more so for businesses and commuters its a pain because it disrupts their day but I don't mind it. The goats like it too......provided its sunny and not to deep they happily go out to exercise in the snow......today infact they were on their platform leaping around and butting each other.
Not been following the Curling so closely although I saw the Womens GB against China and Sweden. They beat China, lost to Sweden, beat the Russian Federation and Germany, lost to Japan and tonight they play the USA. They seem to be performing well, winning against world champion's China in their first game and even more impressive the skip; Eve Muirhead is only 19! Looks like they have a good chance at Gold!
Plant on recording the Two Man Combined Bob Sleigh tonight and hopefully watching it tomorrow, I am working so probably only catch the Highlights Show. The highlights shows have been pretty good though, handy as I have missed quite a lot of the events on late night.
